A Snow Day to Remember: A Family's First Photoshoot
When we booked this session both I and the family alike expected a simple family photoshoot. Magical yes, in it's ability to capture a moment in time, but nothing I hadn't done before. Well, nature had other plans. A colossal snowstorm, the likes of which Denver hadn’t seen in three decades, blanketed the city in a pristine layer of white. Roads were impassable, schools were closed, and the world outside was transformed into a winter wonderland.
For one particular family, this unexpected snowfall turned out to be a blessing in disguise. They had been eagerly anticipating their first family photoshoot, a milestone they had been looking forward to for quite some time. When the storm hit, their initial disappointment soon turned into excitement. A snowy photoshoot? Now, that was something truly special!
We rescheduled the shoot for the day after the storm. The family, a quartet of vibrant personalities, was eager to embrace the winter wonderland. There was the mom, with her warm smile and kind eyes, the dad, exuding a quiet confidence, the 8-year-old brother, a bundle of boundless energy, and the little sister, a mini ray of sunshine.
We began our adventure in a picturesque snowy landscape. The kids, clad in their winter best, were eager to explore the winter wonderland. The 8-year-old boy, with his shoulder-length, sun-kissed hair, was particularly excited. He couldn't contain his glee as he raced through the snow, leaving behind a trail of footprints. His little sister, with her blonde locks, followed closely behind, her laughter echoing through the silent landscape.
As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the snow-covered fields, we ventured into an open field. The mountains, shrouded in a misty veil, provided a dramatic backdrop. The family, huddled together for warmth, shared playful moments, their laughter filling the air. I captured these candid moments, the genuine joy and love they shared for one another.
Our next stop was a serene lake, with ducks enjoying the frosty water. The family, on a cozy blanket, sat in front of the water's edge. The parent's teased the children with silly faces and tickles.
As the day drew to a close, we headed to a path that brilliantly displayed the iconic red rocks, their vibrant hues contrasting beautifully with the white snow. The family, now displaying rosy noses, posed for a few final shots. The 8-year-old boy, his cheeks flushed with cold, declared, "This is the best day of my life!" A sentiment that flattered me and perfectly encapsulated the childlike joy and wonder of the day.
This family photoshoot was more than just a collection of images. It was a celebration of family, love, and the unexpected beauty of winter. It was a reminder that even the most frigid circumstances can lead to extraordinary moments. And it was a testament to the power of photography to capture the essence of a moment, freezing ( get it ;)) it in time for eternity.
As I reflect on this magical day, I am grateful for the opportunity to have witnessed and captured such pure joy. I hope these images will bring a smile to the family's faces for years to come, reminding them of the day they turned a snowstorm into a day to remember.
